Buzzard in the stable; Victoria causing chaos There is just never a dull moment at Enchanted Garden. Last week I arrived one hour late for my drawing class, the reason being that Victoria has a crack in the pad under her foot and the only way I can give her the antibiotic suspension is when she is lying down. This morning Victoria was feeling rather good and she was wandering around with no intention of lying down. I eventually gave up following her and went back into the house, only to find that Samantha, our goose, was wandering around the house in the hope of finding a nesting place. I opened both the sliding doors leading out onto the garden and while I was trying to chase her out of the one door, Victoria came in at the other door. This debacle took some time to sort out before I eventually got to drawing, wondering if I should really tell them why I was late. Would anyone believe me? My real story which I would love to share with you today concerns Henny Penny's unwelcome visitor. If you can recall in one of my previous stories I explained that I have this problem with Henny Penny (one of our bantam hens) who refuses to sleep in the hen house. She insists on sleeping in the stable. One morning I woke up hearing this terrible commotion in the stable. From Henny Penny's cackeling I knew she was seriously in danger. My first thoughts were, that there was a mongoose in the stable trying to catch her, but when I ran into the stable I was surprised to see a Jackal Buzzard. I could not help to admire his beauty for a moment. I realized that he was very traumatised by my presence and I quietly backed out of the stable and within seconds he flew out and away. This was no lesson for Henny Penny; she is still sleeping in the stable. |
