Tuscan's arrival; the Owls

It was in July when I heard that there was a pregnant Great Dane bitch in Simonstown. I phoned the owners and booked a little male Great Dane pup. He was born on the 3rd of September and I went to collect him in mid November. After a lot of name searching we decided to call him Tuscan. I was a little worried about how Mishca our Rotweiler would receive him, but she was great. Tuscan has so far been a model puppy. He sleeps in the kitchen and never messes overnight although he is desperate to get out first thing in the morning to relieve himself. He has already been for runs along the beach and although he was initially quite intimidated by the water and waves, he now splashes around quite happily.
It is with sadness that I have to say that Mischa died three weeks after Tuscan's arrival. Her death was unexpected and came as a huge shock. She managed to find chicken bones in the paddock which a mongoose left behind after killing and eating one of the chickens. The bones caused an obstruction in her intestine which caused her death. She was a wonderful dog and we will always miss her.

We have been having a lot of owls on the property lately. One tried to catch a spotted dikkop's baby. The resident Starlings obviously felt that their own babies were under threat and so they proceeded to intimidate the owl by flying straight at him and veering away at the last second. All the commotion alerted the dikkop family and they managed to leave safely.
Last night one of the owls were sitting on our chimney. The chimney leads to a fireplace in our bedroom. Every time the owl hooted, it echoed down our chimney and sounded really amazing in our bedroom.
